Meditation is a form of beneficial mind exercise for the soul, much like running or push-ups are for the body. Just like with exercise, even doing a short minute meditation is still beneficial. Just starting a healthy habit or routine can set into motion a life-changing behavior. No matter how hectic your schedule is, you can fit in 1 minute, or even 5 minutes of just sitting and settling your mind.
Meditation or Mindfulness is not a competition
The point is not to get the best time, but is simply sitting, observing, and creating space in your mind. You can then carry that space with you during the day, and eventually, it helps keep you from reacting so quickly and so thoughtlessly to things. It keeps you from getting swept up in negative thought patterns and emotions.
Meditation can seem daunting and challenging especially while trying to juggle raising a family and working. If you’ve got a busy schedule, you might feel like it’s impossible to get any time for yourself. But you don’t need to set aside more than a minute or two each day and you don’t need any special equipment to calm your mind and spirit.
With this quick one-minute meditation, you can clear your head and get back to your busy day no matter when or where you are.
It may seem hard to believe, but even the busiest people have time to meditate, AND most importantly, even a short one-minute meditation is beneficial to your physical and mental heath.
With this quick meditation you can focus on your breathing, get your thoughts re-aligned, consider a goal, or just escape the distractions in your mind for a brief reprieve.
Here’s how to perform our minute meditation:
1. Find a spot to meditate.
Find a place where you can be undisturbed for a few minutes. You can meditate in the shower, in your bedroom, in the bathroom (but watch out for deep breathing there!), in the car before you drive to work or run an errand. Any place where you have a few minutes to yourself is appropriate. You don’t need to be by the beach at sunset, or on the side of a mountain by a babbling brook to get the solitude you need to follow this meditation.
